Well, it’s been a busy week of news up there in Washington and it’s only Monday. First is the news that Lt. General Kevin Kiley is stepping down. He testified last week about the horrendous conditions injured soldiers were forced to endure at Walter Reed. This is the guy that lived across the street from the now infamous building 18 and never bothered to go look at it. He’s the one in charge since 2001 or 2002 (I can’t remember) up until 6 months ago. He tells congress that he didn’t know there was a problem until he read the story in the Washington Post. Throughout his testimony he placed the blame on others below him. As Emily always says, “if it’s rotten at the bottom then it’s rotten at the top.”

It sounds as if he is not only stepping down from Walter Reed but he is leaving the Army too and will lose one rank in pay as he hasn’t served the required 3 years at his present rank for retirement benefits. Currently he is a 3 star general. (be-my-littel-general) be=brigadier, my=major, little=lieutenant, general=plain old 4-star general) That’s how i learned in basic training to remember the ranks. He is a lt. general and will retire as a major general. No, I don’t believe he made the decision to step down on his own.

Now yesterday, General Pace comes out with his anti-gay morality speech. You know what? I love Randi Rhodes response...”Shut up and don’t dictate morality to me.” She then she went on to describe a litany of “morale crimes” this administration has done including the abuse of prisoners in this illegal occupation and mistreatment of our soldiers.

Also, in the Times there’s an article that says Bush talked to Alberto Gonzales about the prosecutors that were fired a year and a half before the list was compiled.. In the past the White House claimed to know about it only after the list was completed. This points to involvement from the beginning and involves former White house attorney Harriet Meyers and Carl Rove.

This is a huge story. And to think Harriet Meyers was slated to be a Supreme Court Justice. Oh my God. As for Gonzalas if he knew about he should be fired and if he doesn’t know what the hell is going on in his office and didn’t know about it...he should be fired.

Six of the State Attorneys testified before congress last week. They were doing their jobs very well and pursuing corruption (lots of it within republican ranks) and one prosecuted Randy “Duke” Cunningham...who sits in jail as we speak.  The Arkansas prosecutor was replaced by a crony of Carl Rove. Who they were going after next?

C-Span is going to interesting this week! Former CIA undercover agent Valerie Plane (Scooter libby outed her on behalf of Cheney)  is testifying friday. If you miss it try catching it on you tube next weekend. I’m sure she will be riveting.

Like all the other agencies that Bush has broken, the passport office is no different. The L.A. Times reports lines  at the passport offices in L.A. to be so long they...“like the rolling stones concerts 25 years ago.” If you plan to travel this summer and need to renew your passport do it early. They’re reporting up to 10 weeks instead of the usual 4-6 weeks to renew. I wish they would start confiscating passports at Halliburton so we can serve the papers on them for stealing our treasury before they relocate to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates...Those are the fine folks that helped finance 9-11 and had Dick Cheney as their corporate head until he became VP so he could get all the no-bid contracts in Iraq for them. 27.3 billion dollars and counting...let me put that in perspective...i may be off by a few thousand but I know I’m very close: if a million dollars = one minute, a Billion dollars = aprox 147,000 years. Anyone have the exact ratio? I can’t remember where I heard that but I haven’t forgotten it.

Meanwhile, people are gearing up for a huge protest and rally in Washington DC and cities around the country. Yes! people are starting to wake up! Emily and I will be at the one in Nashville.
