Why media reform is a lesbian issue too

Show notes: Jane Fonda was one of the key note speakers at this year’s media reform conference in Memphis. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend along with 3500+ progressives, journalists, bloggers and concerned citizens fighting for change. Free press sponsored the event and they streamed it live on the internet via pacifica radio to thousands more.

While I have lots of audio highlights from this year’s NCMR 2007 to share on my podcast in the coming weeks, I want to focus first on the women. I want lesbians to hear from the voices of women what is happening, what can and is being done about it, how it effects our community, why it is so important and finally, what we can all do to help do something about it.

This the first show in a series from the conference. I have lots of ideas and I am so inspired by the work that is being done in cities & towns all over the country. This country is going to change. People like us are making that change happen. People are rising up and taking back what is ours including our “public airwaves.”

I have a lot to share with you but today I need to unwind and start putting it all together so you can listen and hopefully get fired up too. For today’s show just listen to what Jane Fonda thinks about the issue and what she’s been doing about it. She is one of many great sheros that were there to lead, coach, lift up, encourage and educate all of us.

I’ll put some more from the women that were there on next week’s show. Actress Gena Davis (Thelma & Louise) Amy Goodman (Democracy Now) Laura Flanders (Air America Radio) and many more. Yes I’ll have some of the guys on too...eventually. Sorry guys...we’ve been silent too long. You’ll have to wait your turn. The patriarchy doesn’t live here.
Dream a better world...
Peace & Love,
Valerie
