About a dozen or so of us went down to Church St. at 7am Saturday morning to keep a GLBT presence up. Religious right wing fundamentalists held a revival in Titan’s Stadium that day. 7-7-07 was a significant date for them I guess and what better way to celebrate than to show that Christian love than to do a little gay hating. To make their anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-pornography point they decided to have a silent march right through Nashville’s Gay Business District. They think we’re the problem in America. Or maybe it’s our fault there are problems in America. I don’t know...It’s hard for me to even imagine what they think about us. It was a silent march so they said nothing as thousands of them walked by.
Anyway, thanks to the gentle loving fairies in our community, the plan was to have a peaceful response to the uninvited invasion. We passed out water to them and let them use the bathrooms in our queer establishments. So they came and they went without incident other than a few of them stopping to pray over our poor souls and many stopping for a drink of our water. We put stickers on all the cups & bottles that said Love is All There Is and little triangles. For those of you that don’t know the pink triangle is important to us gays because it is what gay people wore in the Nazi concentration camps. No, we weren’t well liked there either. I think Ghandi would have been proud of us. :-)
I know I was.
Rather than responding to each of the comments on my You Tube page of the video I made of The call, here it is for you to listen to Gays in Nashville in their own words that were there and how we all felt about it.
